NSF IRES: Citizen-Centered AI
Newcastle, UK · Summer 2026 · Full case studies coming soon
I was one of 11 students selected from more than 100 applicants for an NSF-funded international research program on citizen-centered AI. I worked on two team projects: Civic Care 2.0 and Reimagining the Lecture.
Full write-ups are in progress.

Civic Care 2.0
We worked with community partners in Stanley, County Durham, a former mining town dealing with flooding. Our question was how playful, speculative technology could support the ways residents already care for shared spaces, without replacing or surveilling them. We visited Stanley, ran co-design activities, and made prototypes including an app concept and a booklet on local mining history.
Reimagining the Lecture
This was a speculative design project. We asked what the lecture could become if it drew on critical pedagogy and if AI in the classroom were designed for student agency rather than monitoring.
